We are looking for members of all ages to share their favorite memories and experiences of Obons past and what makes Mountain View Buddhist Temple’s Obon special to them.

ORGANIZER: Brent Izutsu

Wear your favorite Obon fashions (yukata, jinbei, happi coats, etc.), put on a smile, and share it!

ORGANIZER: Elise Fujimoto

Put on your dancing shoes (or zori and getta)! Record yourself and show off your tanko bushi moves!

ORGANIZER: Brent Izutsu

Select your favorite recipe from either edition of the Mountain View Buddhist Temple cookbooks and submit your photo of the final dish with you and your helpers included.

ORGANIZERS: Carol Harbin and Debby Inenaga

If you were/are an Obon food booth chair, this one is for you. Show off your Obon food cooking skills by demonstrating how to create your booth’s specialty — especially if we no longer sell the items. Corn dogs and Tempura: I’m looking at you! Also, chili is a super secret recipe.

ORGANIZERS: Carol Harbin and Debby Inenaga

We are reaching out to each of the Mountain View Buddhist Temple affiliate organizations to provide a video that highlights their group’s characteristics and activities and shares how to learn more or join.

ORGANIZER: Brent Izutsu

Please note that all adults and minors appearing in the photos and videos created for OBON at HOME will need an APPEARANCE RELEASE signed (parents or guardians must provide consent for minors).

Contact the organizers in advance of recording/photographing, to receive tips, best practices, and specific instructions.

We Need YOU!

Our OBON at HOME program requires many hands, heads, and hearts to make it a success. Please volunteer and/or contribute in one (or more!) of the following ways:

Honor your loved ones with a special lantern while supporting our temple.

Are you a whiz (or mildly skilled) at editing in Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro, or iMovie? AND do you have the software installed on your computer? If you’ve said yes (even timidly) to both, come and join the team!

Instructions & Links for MVBT MEMBERS

Due to health code and other restrictions, there are certain parts of OBON at HOME that we have to limit to our dues-paying members. The entire OBON at HOME broadcast and certain merchandise will be available to the general public; however, all food sales and previously subsidized items (such as leftover prizes from previous Obons) need to be limited to our current membership.

If you would like to join us as a member, you may do so at this time on our OBON at HOME Members-Only Order Form. People of all ages, ethnicities, genders, and races are welcome to join the Mountain View Buddhist Temple Sangha.

To make membership more accessible, we are offering an INTRODUCTORY HALF-PRICE MEMBERSHIP ($150, good through December 31, 2020). In January 2021, you will be invited to renew at standard 2021 rates. We look forward to continuing to have you become a cherished member of our Sangha with all the benefits that membership can provide.
